An attorney representing Universal Music Group claims that Drake has modified his defamation lawsuit against them.
Drake filed the lawsuit against UMG, claiming that they heavily promoted Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” using bots, payola, and other underhanded methods to bring his value down. He accused the label of defamation because the diss track called Drake a “certified pedophile.”
UMG attorney Rollin A. Ransom is now asking that the April 2 pretrial conference be pushed so that the court can decide whether to approve their motion to dismiss the lawsuit now that Drizzy has dropped “key allegations” from his 81-page filing.
“[P]ursuant to separate correspondence, Plaintiff has agreed to withdraw certain key allegations in his complaint,” although the letter to the court does not specify which allegations the Canadian rapper has dropped from his lawsuit.
UMG has always denied the allegations Drake made against them in the lawsuit.
“Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist—let alone Drake—is illogical,” a UMG spokesperson said at the time. “We have invested massively in his music and our employees around the world have worked tirelessly for many years to help him achieve historic commercial and personal financial success.”
