The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly rearrested the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, shortly after a federal court granted him bail from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC).
The development has sparked intense criticism from his family and political associates, who have strongly condemned the action as a violation of the rule of law and judicial processes.
According to family sources, El-Rufai had just perfected his bail conditions when operatives of the secret police intercepted him and took him back into custody. His relatives have characterized the continuous detention as political persecution, expressing deep concerns over his safety, well-being, and access to basic necessities while in state custody.
The secret police has yet to release an official statement outlining the new grounds or fresh allegations warranting the rearrest.
