The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming Edo senatorial by-election, Sergius Ogun has said that the people are willing to give the party a chance.
Speaking ahead of the August 16 by-election, Ogun said the two dominant parties in the state – the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – will be defeated at the polls.
Ogun made this assertion while speaking on News Central Television on Thursday.
He said the PDP and its candidate are already in court over the party’s primary election while the APC candidate has nothing to offer the people aside from the party’s past glory.
Stating that the ADC will be leveraging on its strong grassroots support and acceptance, Ogun said the APC has no chance at the by-election.
“It’s not because APC is on the ground in the senatorial district.
“The PDP did anti-party and voted for the then senator (Okpebholo). That’s how he became a senator.
“ADC might be relatively new, but because we are tired of these two political parties, they are willing to give ADC a chance,” Ogun said.
“The feedback from the grassroots is overwhelming. People are saying, ‘look, we have been waiting for this.’ We don’t have enough membership cards to cover as many people that want to join the party,” Ogun stated.
