The Labour Party (LP) on Friday dismissed a report that its gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata, in upcoming Edo State election has stepped down to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports that Yunusa Tanko, the spokesperson of the LP presidential campaign council in the 2023 election, via the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter,  urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as fake news.

The report had alleged that Akpata withdrew from the election after due consultation with LP stakeholders, collasping his structure for Ighodalo.

Reacting, the LP chieftain pointed out certain discrepancies in the statement, adding it is a ploy to steal the votes of the electorates.

He wrote, “Fake News! Fake News!! Fake News!!!

“They are used to stealing the people votes. The letter was unintelligentlly written ……. The letter was written on the 20th of September and signed on 29th of July. Every Day for the thief one day for the owner of the House.”
