THE Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has referred to Governor Monday Okpebholo as his “brother,” dismissing any expectations of future conflict between them.
He made this statement today during an interview.
Idahosa stated, “By the grace of God Almighty, I can assure you that there will be no misunderstandings between my principal and me. I am here to serve the good people of Edo State, not personal interests.”
He emphasized, “If there were any personal interests that overshadowed the needs of the Edo people, then I wouldn’t deserve to be in this position. Our ultimate goal is to prioritize the welfare of the Edo people.”
This follows the troubled relationship between former governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Phillip Shuaibu.
Shuaibu revealed that he and Obaseki, who began their tenure on good terms, fell out when he expressed his ambition to become the next governor.
This led Obaseki to advocate for Shuaibu’s impeachment and threaten him if he ever ran for office.
Idahosa clarified the intent behind his partnership with Governor Okpebholo, stating, “We are here for a purpose: to develop the state and its people, particularly in terms of human capital development.”
He added, “The role of the Deputy Governor is to complement the governor’s plans and visions and to help fulfill our campaign promises.”
