Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dropped heavy allegations against President Bola Tinubu, claiming the President has been withdrawing ₦100 billion monthly from the Federation Account without any legal backing.

The former governor alleged that these secret deductions have been ongoing for approximately 15 months.

According to him, the total amount of money taken from the national coffers during this period has reached a staggering ₦1.5 trillion.

He argued that such financial moves, conducted without the authorization of the National Assembly or clear constitutional provision, constitute a gross violation of the law.

During a broadcast on Arise TV, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA, El-Rufai described the President’s actions as an “impeachable offence.”

He questioned the transparency of the administration, noting that while the funds are reportedly channeled toward national security, the country continues to grapple with escalating insecurity and economic hardship.

The former governor was emphatic that the President’s handling of the Federation Account bypasses the checks and balances required in a democracy.

He stated:
“Every month, President Bola Tinubu deducts N100B from the Federation account. This is unconstitutional and an impeachable offence.”

El-Rufai, who moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), suggested that the legislature must take its oversight functions seriously to prevent the executive from treating the national treasury as a private fund.

He noted that the lack of positive results in the security sector further makes these massive withdrawals unjustifiable.
