Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied making a declaration that it is the turn of the South to produce the country’s president in 2027.
Naijaonpoint reports that El-Rufai was quoted by an online publication as having said in a post via 𝕏 by ADC News (@AdcNews_), “I refused to contest in 2027 because it is the turn of the South. You will see me in action come 2031.”
However, El-Rufai, in a statement on Monday, described the publication as fake news, stating that he did not specify any region of the country should produce the president in 2027.
According to the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the statement attributed to him was never made in any interview or on social media.
The statement reads, “My attention has been drawn to a trending fake news item alleging that I specified which region of the country should produce the president in 2027.
“This is an untrue claim, despite its virality. I did not say so in any of my speeches, interviews or social media posts. I have my own verifiable social media platforms where I speak my mind and own my opinions.
“I wish to reiterate that no views may be attributed to me unless those I explicitly expressed on my social media platforms or during interviews with respected media platforms. It is also wrong and improper to attribute to me opinion articles from other authors that I may post on my handles as a contribution to the national conversation. These caveats are crucial as we confront both irresponsible politicking and the deliberate misuse of social media for spreading fake news.”
