El-Rufai slams Tinubu’s govt for daily lies, rules out 2027 ambition

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has ruled out contesting for any political office in the 2027 general elections, stating that his renewed participation in politics is driven by a commitment to support credible leadership rather than personal ambition.

El-Rufai made the declaration in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of youths who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello.

He also took aim at the current administration, stressing that Nigerians no longer need further explanation to recognise what he described as its failures.

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai said.

The former governor revealed that his original plan after leaving office was to retire from partisan politics, but recent national realities have compelled his return.

He said his current priority is to mentor young people, women, and reform-minded citizens to take up active roles in governance.

El-Rufai further urged eligible Nigerians to register and vote, emphasising that broad participation in the electoral process remains essential to achieving political change.
