Elizabeth Salgado’s stay in the United States was tragically cut short when she vanished in broad daylight in April 2015. The desperate search for the young woman ended when her remains were found around three years later. Investigation Discovery’s ‘Disappeared: On a Mission’ chronicles the moments leading up to Elizabeth’s disappearance and how the police worked the case after that. So, if you’re curious to find out more, we’ve got you covered.

How Did Elizabeth Salgado Die?

Elizabeth Elena Laguna-Salgado was originally from Mexico. After carrying out a Mormon mission over there, she hoped to learn English and moved to the United States. The 26-year-old lived in Provo, Utah, and attended Nomen Global Language School, where she learned English. Elizabeth lived with roommates close by and was described as an optimistic woman who traveled to the United States for better opportunities. According to Elizabeth’s classmates, she was last seen during the afternoon of April 16, 2015.

At the time, she was headed back to her apartment about 18 blocks away. However, Elizabeth never made it home and consequently didn’t show up for work or contact her family. About three years later, in May 2018, a man found a skull and some clothing in a shallow grave in Hobble Creek Canyon, Utah. The remains were later identified as Elizabeth’s, and the death was considered suspicious. While there was no indication of blunt force trauma, the exact cause of death has not been made public.

Who Killed Elizabeth Salgado?

The authorities learned that Elizabeth had moved from Mexico around three weeks before her disappearance. They tried to create a timeline for those days and interviewed her classmates and people on the way she usually took to get home. The investigators also learned that there was no activity on her phone and bank records in the time after she vanished. Initially, the family mentioned an obsessive boyfriend from Mexico who didn’t like Elizabeth coming to the United States.

The authorities also suspected her two uncles, but the family was later cleared of any wrongdoing. In June 2015, an unidentified man called the family claiming to have the 26-year-old and demanding a ransom. Beyond that, the authorities had little to go on, and the case hit a wall. Elizabeth’s remains were then found in the canyon in 2018, bringing the case back into the spotlight again.

In February 2020, the family’s private investigator, Jason Jensen, released a statement from the family for the person responsible. Part of the message said, “If you have any remorse for Elizabeth’s death, come forward now. Turn yourself in.” Jason believed that Elizabeth was taken by someone she knew because nobody in the area reported screaming around the time she was last seen or anything unusual per se.

Back then, many men showed an interest in her. But according to Elizabeth’s mother, the 26-year-old was intent on studying and her work. Furthermore, Jason added that Elizabeth’s church friends needed to be questioned. Furthermore, he said that according to a source, there was some church-related activity going on at the mouth of the creek the weekend before Elizabeth’s disappearance. In fact, she had visited the place at the time.

As for the evidence found at the burial site, a forensic examination was inconclusive. However, the authorities caught another break in March 2021. A penny found by Jason at the crime scene was sent for DNA testing and came back positive for male DNA. The investigators and loved ones have since been optimistic about the new evidence providing more answers, but Elizabeth’s case remains unsolved for now.

Who Is Hannah in Night Sky? Why Does Cornelius Call Her an Apostate?

Portrayed by Sonya Walger, Hannah is one of the most important supporting characters in Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Night Sky,’ Even though she is introduced in episode 7, titled ‘Lake Diving,’ she becomes a crucial part of the plot by the time the first season concludes. After escaping from the most secretive and dangerous cult in the world, Jude comes to Farnsworth, Illinois, in search of his father, Gabriel. He later discovers that a truck driver dropped Gabriel off at a location in Enfield, Michigan. Jude travels there with Irene and Denise and discovers that it’s a bed and breakfast establishment. Its owner is Hannah. Here is everything you need to know about her. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Who Is Hannah?

Hannah introduces herself as the owner of the bed and breakfast establishment. She informs Jude and the others that Gabriel came there 15 years earlier. He worked as a handyman, and they had a relationship, but ultimately, he moved on. She seems to be still bitter about it. However, it soon becomes apparent that she is not exactly what she claims to be. Hidden somewhere in the hotel, a man named Paul is keeping surveillance on all the guests.

Hannah later has a long conversation with Jude about Gabriel and lets him stay in the same room his father once occupied. There, Jude finds the codes to his father’s possible location in a copy of ‘The Count of Monte Cristo.’ The following morning, when Jude and the others depart, Paul follows them.

The season finale reveals that Hannah used to be part of the cult just like Jude and Gabriel. And now, she heads an organization that fights the cult. They don’t interfere when Cornelius threatens the Yorks and Jude. However, after he is subdued and placed in the van that Stella and Toni took from Nick, Hannah and her people intercept them on the road. Stella tells Hannah that she is no longer a guardian of the cult before she and Toni are taken away. When Hannah speaks to Cornelius, it becomes apparent that they know each other. Cornelius is fanatically devoted to the cult. Even after being captured by the enemy, he is outwardly defiant. However, his eyes give away that he is terrified.

Why Does Cornelius Call Hannah an Apostate?

From the interaction between Hannah and Cornelius and the fact that Gabriel sought her out, we can glean that Hannah left the cult before Gabriel. In the following years, she presumably set up a resistance against the most powerful shadowy organization in the world. She likely knew that Gabriel had left the codes to his location in his room and ensured that Jude would find it. She and Gabriel did probably have a relationship, and she just might be bitter that it ended. But she likely omitted its context. It’s possible that Gabriel was part of her organization before his departure and played a pivotal role in the fight against the cult. However, he has since moved on. For Hannah, the fight continues.

As mentioned above, Cornelius is fanatically devoted to the cult. The phrase “apostate” refers to a person who has renounced their religion. In Hannah’s case, she has left the cult. This is why Hannah — along with Jude, Gabriel, and now Stella — is an apostate to Cornelius and all other active cult members.

Where is Keith Laborde Now?

Published

on

twins karen and sharon

Vincent Simmons was just 25 when he was sentenced to 100 years in prison after being accused of violently raping Karen and Sharon Sanders — a set of 14-year-old twins — a crime he maintains he never committed. However, as explored in ’48 Hours: Please Don’t Tell,’ Karen and Sharon Sanders insist he’s guilty despite recently agreeing to drop the charges against him and the supposed odd involvement of Keith Laborde. So now, if you wish to find out more about the latter, especially the details of his relationship with the sisters as well as his possible current whereabouts, here’s all that we know.

Who is Keith Laborde?

At the time of the alleged incident on the evening of May 9, 1977, an 18-year-old reported Marine Corps officer Keith Laborde was with Karen and Sharon Sanders, who are his first cousins. He was driving them back home from his place when he picked up a hitchhiker from 7-11, as per their accounts, only for it to end up with him forced into the trunk of his vehicle at knifepoint. Like the girls, once they went to the authorities with this ordeal two weeks later, Keith insisted their assailant was a Black man, whom they all individually later identified as Vincent Simmons from a lineup.

With that said, though, one of their other cousins has since claimed that the trio lied at every step of the way, which is something Keith personally told her at a bar long after Vincent’s conviction. “He told me that he had consensual sex with one of the girls and locked the other in the trunk,” Dana Brouillette stated in a sworn affidavit. She later explained, “He had gone down Little California Road, and he locked Sharon in the trunk, and he said the sex between him and Karen was consensual. He said, but the other one was a little hellcat… [She] put the scratches on his neck.”

Dana actually believes Keith, Karen, and Sharon concocted the story of a Black man attacking them to justify the noticeable scratches, along with the state of their overall appearance that night. But Karen clarified the entire situation in an interview with CBS by stating that although she did engage in consensual sex with Keith, it was way before the summer of 1977. She was reportedly just a child back then, whereas he was a teenager, and they “experimented. But that has nothing to do with what Vincent did. That’s two separate incidents. That’s two separate things,” she said.

Where is Keith Laborde Now?

Despite the (seemingly unsupported) accusations against him, Keith Laborde has outrightly denied ever having sex with Karen, according to ’48 Hours.’ He told the production that they only “played around like children,” nothing less and nothing more, but yes, every part of it was consensual. Coming to his current standing, in his 60s, it appears as if the Louisiana native prefers to keep well away from the limelight these days because he purportedly has a family of his own.

Keith wholeheartedly maintains that Vincent is guilty, which is why when CNN approached him for an interview in 2020, he reportedly let his anger out in the form of profanities, threats, and racial slurs directed toward him. Keith concluded with, “This sh*t happened. It’s real. It happened. And I’m not dealing with this no more I’m not looking over my shoulder anymore… I had enough of this sh*t.”
