After the death of Lisa Marie Presley in January, Riley Keough is now the eldest direct descendant of Elvis Presley. The King’s granddaughter has had a difficult few years after burying her brother, her great-grandmother, and her mother. She and her half-sisters Harper and Finley Lockwood inherit Graceland and all of its contents to continue the legacy of their famous grandfather. However, despite growing up surrounded by musicians, Riley has taken on a bigger side on the acting side.

The latest project of the 34-year-old is the Amazon miniseries Daisy Jones and Six, based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reed. Riley stars in a Fleetwood Mac-inspired story that follows a fictional band from the 1970s in a documentary style.

Daisy Jones is a bit like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin and is a self-destructive drug addict with an amazing musical talent. Despite the similarities—including the time period—with her grandfather, it is her family who are all musicians who influence her engagement with Daisy more than Elvis himself. However, incredibly before the movie, she hadn’t picked up a guitar or really given vocals.

Riley said Entertainment Weekly: “It was a thrill to come to work and tell my guitar teacher I never got the guitar. He said, ‘What? This sounds crazy to me. Which is kind of crazy (laughs). But I’ve always been more interested in movies. So, I am Sam [Claflin] We have to start from the bottom and learn everything.”

Of course, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Elvis was a movie star and singer, so she certainly follows him in that vein. And while being a rock royalty wasn’t discussed with showrunner Scott Neustadter, the King’s granddaughter has seen a change in landscape.

It turns out that this case was more about keeping the audience from being distracted than anything related to Riley’s performance.

Scott shared, “At Formosa Cafe, we’d go shoot in a booth. And literally, they have like an Elvis shrine above the booth and we were like, ‘Let’s move [scene] here [laughs]. It’s a little distracted.”

Daisy Jones and the Six is streaming on Prime Video right now.
