New Delhi.KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants started their campaign in IPL 2023 with a bang. In the very first match, Lucknow defeated Delhi Capitals by 50 runs. The hero of Lucknow’s victory was such a bowler, who stayed away from IPL for almost 5 years and returned to IPL after waiting for 5 years. Mark Wood created a ruckus by returning to the world’s biggest cricket league after almost 5 years. He took 5 wickets for 14 runs.
Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Akshar Patel and Chetan Sakaria became the victims of Wood. He is the joint 8th bowler to do the best bowling in IPL history. At the same time, he is the second English bowler to join the club of 5 wickets in IPL. Before that, in 2012, Dimitri had done this feat. He took 5 wickets for 25 runs against Pune Warriors for Punjab.

4 seasons out with injury
Wood’s such comeback in IPL became memorable for everyone. In fact, in 2018, he made his debut on behalf of Chennai Super Kings and in the very first match he scored 49 runs. Wood did not get any success either. After this bad debut, he was first dropped from the team and then remained out of the league for the next 4 seasons due to injury.
