An end to the lingering crisis bedevilling the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State seems imminent following the withdrawal of the suit challenging the emergence of Sir Chinyaka Ohaa as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2027 general elections.
THE WHISTLER reports that Ohaa’s challenger, Prof Ene Nwannaji, withdrew his court case challenging the emergence of Ohaa on Thursday. Nwannaji also declared his support to Ohaa after the withdrawal of the suit at the Federal High Court, Enugu.
Speaking after the court proceedings, Ohaa expressed delight over the development. He said the development was a pointer that NDC in the state “is now united”, adding that “the development has ended speculations about division within the party”.
Quoting him, “The world and Enugu State can now see that NDC is together and we are going to the Government House.”
Ohaa said reconciliation with other aggrieved members was also ongoing, stressing that the process was continuous. He therefore called on the party faithful and supporters to work together as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
He also promised that an NDC government would focus on the welfare of residents and ensure proper implementation of its projects.
Nwannaji, who had earlier purchased the party’s governorship nomination form, said he decided to withdraw the case after recognising that he and Ohaa shared similar aspirations for Enugu State.
According to him, “I saw in him all those things that have been in my mind; all those dreams I have for Enugu. And if he has them, and I have them, the only way Enugu people can benefit is for us to work as a team.”
Nwannaji also dismissed suggestions that his earlier governorship ambition was sponsored by other individuals.
