King Kong is back to dish out punishment in the MonsterVerse with a look at a new prequel series. It’s the second Skull Island prequel from Titan Comics, following the success of Return to Skull Island. Overall, it continues the multimedia expansion of the MonsterVerse, building on the success of Netflix’s Skull Island: The Animated Series and other tie-ins.
CBR has the exclusive first look at King Kong: Escape From Skull Island #1, written by Simon Furman, with art by Christopher Jones. The preview for the first issue of the miniseries finds Kong fighting Nazis, all while trying to escape his captors.
It also teases an epic battle with one of Skull Island’s most dangerous beasts.

Legendary continues to capitalize on the popularity of the MonsterVerse by diversifying the projects released to fans. The Skull Island animated series may have only run for one season on Netflix, but already there have been two prequels that continue its story. The animated series follows a group of adventurers stranded on the island who meet Kong.
Covers for Escape From Skull Island #1 are by Maria Wolf, Christopher Jones, and Sunghan Yune. The preview of the interior art features Kong chained to a wall while Nazis hold rifles to him; a large dragon-like beast flying into the air; and finally, Kong ripping the creature to bloody shreds with his bare paws.
