In an interview with Arise TV, El-Rufai said a DSS officer demanded that he report to their office, but he requested a formal invitation, which was not provided. He described how around 50 armed operatives then tried to force him to comply.

He said, “As I tried to turn right, they tried to force me to go left. I said look, don’t touch me, I will not go where you want. But he said you have to go to where I ordered you. I said even the president cannot tell me I have to do anything. This country is a democratic country and I don’t have to do anything I do not wish to do.”

El-Rufai emphasized that in a democracy, no one—including the president—can compel a citizen to act against their will, criticizing the operatives’ approach as inappropriate.
