In the nearly 30 years since Event Horizon horrified movie audiences around the world, the film’s gruesome leap into gore, chaos, and a literal ‘Hell dimension’ has made it infamous with its cult following. But despite all odds, we can officially confirm the arrival of new ‘evidence’ that Event Horizon‘s most infamous fan theory is actually true.
The Event Horizon Fan Theory: It’s Actually A Warhammer 40K Prequel

Thankfully for anyone confused, this particularly theory is actually shockingly simple, with fans long claiming that Event Horizon is an unofficial prequel to the Warhammer 40K universe. And unlike most longshot fan theories linking beloved properties together, the requirements here are almost impossible to ‘refute’ with contrary evidence, since the ‘prequel’ is set more than 25,000 years before Warhammer 40K.
The positive evidence is, admittedly, compelling (hence why the theory has lasted three decades). The technology driving the Event Horizon is arrestingly Gothic and medieval in design, a match for Warhammer‘s future. And the film’s entire story revolves around the ability to punch a hole through the universe, allowing faster-than-light travel across space. Which is where things get interesting.
The Event Horizon famously fails in its mission, accidentally entering an unknown dimension, plane, or aspect of space that is, effectively, Hell. A place or level of existence that is twisted, evil, violent, depraved, and determined to torment any mind that enters it. An unthinkable, nightmare secret existing below our own universe, that is “pure chaos.” Thus inviting the connections to the Warhammer mythology.
Although taking place in humanity’s future from the years 30,000-40,000, the horrifying home of Chaos Gods, demonic entities, and evil dubbed “the Warp” was always waiting beneath our own dimension. If a spaceship were to use the Warp to traverse space without protection, they would likely experience the exact nightmare as the crew of Event Horizon. A theory bolstered by its brand new prequel.

The Warhammer Fan Theory Gets The Most Unexpected New Evidence
There has been much to discuss about Event Horizon: Dark Descent‘s changes to movie canon, already expanding on the lore and movie legacy in ways fans never expected. But in Issue #3, the creative team of Christian Ward, Tristan Jones, and Pip Martin drop a bombshell for Event Horizon truthers. Revealing the Hell-like space in full detail, the plane of torment is given an official name: The Chaos Realm.
The connection here is as simple as the theory: while the ethereal, nightmare dimension referred to as the Warp is called by many names, including the Empyrean, or the Immaterium, “The Realm of Chaos” is the official moniker given to the places where Warhammer 40K‘s Chaos Gods make their homes. And the place you would expect to find Event Horizon‘s villain, The King of Hell.
While we await more hints that the Event Horizon accidentally doomed humanity, or at least some cameos from Tzeentch, Slanes, or Khorne, it’s obvious that Warhammer 40K fans will need to get in on Dark Descent immediately.
