Eyebrows Raised as Access Bank CEO, Ogbonna Acquires $20 Million House in London

Access Bank Plc MD Rosevelt Ogbonna

Roosevelt Ogbonna, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, has made headlines following his purchase of a luxury residence worth approximately £15 million (about $20 million) in one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods.

The property, located on Hampstead’s famed “Billionaires’ Row,” was acquired in August, according to filings submitted in the United Kingdom. The upscale home, which features a private spa and a lavish entertainment suite, had previously been listed for £17 million in 2021, underscoring the scale of the transaction.

The deal stands out at a time when London’s high-end real estate market has slowed significantly. Recent policy changes—including increased stamp duties and the scrapping of favourable tax regimes for wealthy foreign buyers—have dampened demand for properties valued above £5 million. Industry data from LonRes shows that between January and May this year, price cuts on such properties rose by 45 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

Ogbonna’s high-profile acquisition, first reported by Bloomberg, comes as Access Bank maintains its position as Nigeria’s largest financial institution by assets. The bank chief, who has led the institution for more than three years, has not publicly commented on the purchase.
