Fackham Hall is set to release on December 5, and they have officially released the trailer for the upcoming movie starring Harry Potter’s Tom Felton.
The mystery whodunit parody combining Downton Abbey with Airplane! will be released in a couple of months. The comedy is directed by Jim O’Hanlon (known for Catastrophe) and finally has its first trailer. It will be filled with upper-class society, murder, and scandal. The tagline is simple: Born to aristocracy. Bred for idiocy.
Felton will appear in the movie as Eric Noone’s conniving rival Archibald, alongside Ben Radcliffe as Noone. Rose Davenport will be played by Thomasin McKenzie, Damien Lewis is Lord Davenport, and Katherine Waterston will also be appearing. Comedian Jummy Carr created and co-wrote the script alongside Patrick Carr and the Dawson Brothers.
The official synopsis is:
“A spoof that crosses Downton Abbey with Airplane! and Monty Python, Fackham Hall follows lovable pick-pocket Eric Noone as he lands a job at a unique English manor house.
He quickly rises through the ranks, and a forbidden romance with lady-of-the-house Rose Davenport, blossoms. But when an unexpected murder occurs, Eric gets framed – leaving Rose and her family’s future perilously uncertain.”
The movie comes a few months after Downton Abbey said their final goodbye with the release of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. The famed British period drama earned worldwide success and ran for over a decade.
Director O’Hanlon spoke about his love of period dramas due to “the wonderful production values, the beautiful houses, the opulent drawing rooms, the hairstyles, the costumes, all of which are present and correct in Fackham Hall.“
Felton’s mainly known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter universe, which ended in 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. The actor is also known for The Flash, Ophelia, and will be starring in They Will Kill You alongside Patricia Arquette next year.
Fackham Hall promises to deliver everything fans love about period dramas, but with extra crude humor, which definitely wasn’t featured in Downton Abbey. O’Hanlon also revealed there will be special mentions within the spoof, “look out for some pretty rude stuff involving a visit from the famous writer, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the naming of one of his most famous characters.”
Despite fans desperate for some serious Downton Abbey replacements, this is definitely the perfect palate cleanser for those who want a break away from the drama and want a hilarious murder-mystery.
