Fat Joe is blasting attorney Tyrone Blackburn for allegedly relying on fake AI-generated legal citations in an attempt to get the rapper’s defamation case thrown out.
According to court documents, Fat Joe’s legal team claims Blackburn’s motion to dismiss is filled with “misrepresentations and fabrications of legal authority clearly generated by AI.” The filing points to “at least ten instances” of so-called “hallucinated” case law…citations that either are false or stretch the truth considerably.
The rapper, born Joseph Cartagena, sued his former hypeman, Terrance Dixon, and Blackburn earlier this year, accusing them of spreading fake social media posts with explosive allegations of sexual misconduct and murder-for-hire plots in an effort to extort him.
“Blackburn’s egregious misconduct in drafting the Motion overshadows Defendants’ substantive arguments,” the filing states, accusing the lawyer of “irresponsibly” using AI without verifying the citations. Fat Joe’s attorneys added, “It is time, once and for all, for Blackburn to be sanctioned for his flagrant disregard of his duties and responsibilities to the court.”
Fat Joe’s team is urging the judge to reject the dismissal and impose sanctions. A ruling has not yet been made.
