The father of Ukpo Nwamini David, the boy who accused former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu of taking him to the United Kingdom for Kidney transplant, has reportedly died of heart break.

One of Ukpo’s son’s, Boniface Nwamini Ukpo, told Newsmax that his father died on Sunday.

Confirming the death of his father, he said they have not spoken with David since the incident happened in 2022.

He said: “Yes, my father died yesterday afternoon by 12 pm. It’s so sad that since the incident happened in 2022, we have not spoken with my brother, David Nwamini.

“So, my father has been sick over the saga and yesterday he finally died.”

Recall that a London court had sentenced former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and a Nigerian doctor, Obinna Obeta, to prison over their roles in an illegal organ-harvesting scheme.

The trio were found guilty of trafficking a Lagos-based trader to the United Kingdom to illegally harvest his kidney for a transplant intended for the couple’s seriously ill daughter.

According to the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Ekweremadu, 61, was sentenced in 2023 to nine years and eight months in prison. His wife, 56-year-old Beatrice, received four years and six months.

Dr. Obinna Obeta, 51, described by prosecutors as the middleman in the operation, was jailed for 10 years.

The convictions, delivered in March 2023, marked the UK’s first-ever prosecution for illegal organ harvesting. All three were found guilty of conspiring to arrange the travel of a man for the purpose of organ removal.
