First City Monument Bank (FCMB), in collaboration with the Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO) and Heave Venture, has announced the launch of a ₦20 million AgriTech Investment Readiness Programme to empower early-stage agricultural technology startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Nigeria.

The programme, which opened for applications on August 8, 2025, will run until September 12, 2025, with training scheduled to kick off in October.

What the programme offers

The initiative goes beyond grants. It is designed to build the capacity of agritech businesses, helping them secure funding, attract investors, and scale sustainably.

Selected participants will undergo six weeks of intensive training, supported by digital learning tools like Zimara a platform that uses alternative data and readiness benchmarks to highlight investment-worthy ventures.

At the end of the programme, 20 chosen startups will have the chance to pitch their solutions before a panel of investors and compete for the ₦20 million prize pool.

Why FCMB is backing agritech

Kudzai Gumunyu, Divisional Head of Agribusiness & Non-Oil Exports at FCMB, described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Nigerian agriculture.

“This programme is more than providing traditional funding; it is a commitment to nurturing and empowering agritech startups to contribute to the agribusiness landscape and unlock its full potential,” Gumunyu said.

Abiodun Lawal, CEO of Heave Ventures, added that agribusiness innovation could transform Nigeria’s economy.

“Agriculture is a powerful lever in the fight against poverty and unemployment and in achieving food sovereignty. Scaling innovation can revitalise value chains, create jobs, boost forex earnings, and strengthen Africa’s role in global food markets,” Lawal noted.
