The presidency has confirmed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the details of the 2026 budget proposal.
This was made known by the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post via his đť•Ź account on Friday.
According to him, with the FEC approval, Tinubu is now set to present the 2026 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly today, Friday, 19th December, 2025.
He wrote, “The Federal Executive Council has approved the 2026 Budget and it is now ready for presentation to the joint session of the National Assembly, this afternoon by the President, Commander In Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
Meanwhile, Naijaonpoint reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the National Assembly, requesting an extension of the lifespan of the 2025 Appropriation Act from its original timeline to March 2026.
The request was contained in a letter dated December 18, 2025, and read during Friday’s plenary session by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
In the correspondence, President Tinubu also sought legislative approval to consolidate the capital components of the 2024 and 2025 budgets, a move he says will enhance fiscal discipline.
The President clarified that Friday’s letter supersedes an earlier one dated December 16, which was also sent to the lawmakers for the same purpose.
Explaining the rationale behind the request, Tinubu said the extension aligns with his administration’s broader fiscal reform measures aimed at ending the current practice of multiple concurrently running budgets.
