FG Appoints KWAM 1 as Airport Security Ambassador

KWAM 1

The Federal Government has named Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an ambassador for promoting proper airport security procedures.

The decision comes shortly after his recent altercation with officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing incidents of unruly behaviour at airports. He revealed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had reduced KWAM 1’s six-month flight ban to one month and would work with him to raise public awareness on appropriate conduct in aviation spaces. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will coordinate the engagement.

The appointment follows the musician’s public apology over the August 5 incident, during which he was accused of obstructing a ValueJet aircraft from moving. Authorities alleged that he carried a flask suspected to contain alcohol, spilled its contents on security staff, and walked onto the tarmac in violation of safety regulations.

Keyamo said the leniency was granted after appeals from concerned individuals and KWAM 1’s show of remorse, adding that the government remains committed to upholding strict aviation safety standards.
