FG declares 3-day public holiday
The Federal Government has announced public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.
According to the announcement, December 25 and December 26, 2025, have been set aside to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day, while January 1, 2026, will be observed as the New Year public holiday.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
The information was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister urged Nigerians to use the Christmas period to reflect on values such as love, peace, humility and sacrifice, which are linked to the birth of Jesus Christ.
He also encouraged citizens across the country, irrespective of religion or ethnic background, to pray for peace, improved security and the overall growth of the nation during the festive season.
In addition, Tunji-Ojo advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and stay alert to security issues while celebrating. He extended goodwill messages to citizens, wishing them a joyful Christmas celebration and a successful New Year.
