The Federal Government is set to declare Tuesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
Naijaonpoint reports that the declaration, expected to be made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will officially announce the holiday on behalf of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
As part of the celebrations, President Tinubu will deliver a national broadcast at 7:00 a.m. on October 1. The address is expected to highlight his government’s reform agenda and reflect on the country’s democratic journey since independence in 1960.
Later in the morning, at 10:00 a.m., the traditional Independence anniversary parade will take place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests in attendance.
The Presidency had earlier unveiled the complete line-up of activities under the theme, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
On Sunday, September 28, an inter-denominational church service was held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
On Monday, September 29, attention shifted to civic engagement with a world press conference at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja.
The celebrations will conclude on Friday, October 3, with the unveiling of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate at the State House Conference Centre.
