The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has debunked claims that it has started shortlisting candidates for its ongoing recruitment exercise, warning applicants to disregard fake messages making the rounds online.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, the board stressed that the recruitment portal remains open and shortlisting has not yet begun.
“We are yet to commence shortlisting. The portal is still collecting applications until Monday, 11th August 2025. Beware of fraudsters,” the CDCFIB stated.
This clarification follows the circulation of fraudulent messages on social media and messaging apps, falsely informing recipients that they had been shortlisted for employment under the CDCFIB and demanding a payment of N1,250 for “consultancy clearance.”
One such scam message reads: “You have been shortlisted as a suitable candidate after a review of your CV/application submitted recently… Your consultancy clearance would determine your posting letter for employment at any of the four (4) agencies.”
The fake message instructs unsuspecting applicants to send the money to a fictitious “Federal Government Human Resource Consultant,” with the promise of a provisional offer of appointment and a posting letter within two weeks after payment and verification.
The CDCFIB has disassociated itself from the fraudulent messages, insisting it has not authorised any third party to request payments for recruitment processing.
“Please note that the recruitment process is absolutely FREE at all stages,” the board stressed.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the board urged applicants to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to scammers seeking to exploit their job search. It noted that the warning is crucial given past cases where Nigerians were defrauded by individuals posing as government recruitment agents.
The CDCFIB’s 2025 recruitment drive, launched in mid-July after initial delays, covers vacancies in four federal paramilitary agencies — the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Initially scheduled to start on June 26, the process began on July 14. Applications are accepted only through the official recruitment portal: www.cdcfib.gov.ng.
Available positions are spread across three major cadres — General Duty (Superintendent), Inspectorate, and Assistant — each with specific academic and physical requirements. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged 18–35, physically and medically fit, and have no criminal or financial record. Minimum height and chest measurements also apply.
After a brief closure due to technical issues, the portal was reopened on July 21, with the deadline extended from August 4 to August 11, 2025.
Applicants have been advised to rely solely on official CDCFIB communication channels for updates and to report any suspicious activity or fraudulent messages to the relevant authorities.
