The Super Eagles of Nigeria strolled to an easy 3-1 win against Uganda at the Complexe Sportif de Fès this evening, Soccernet.ng reports.
With a place in the next round of AFCON 2025 secured, Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, opted to rotate his starting lineup with a few new faces coming in.
Francis Uzoho replaced Stanley Nwabali, while Blackburn’s Ryan Alebiosu came in for Bright Osayi Samuel. Igoh Ogbu, Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Paul Onuachu also started against Paul Put’s side as well.

Nigeria vs Uganda: How the Super Eagles secured victory
Raphael Onyedika stood out for the Nigerian National team, even before the goals came pouring in. The Club Brugge midfielder was tidy in possession, helping Chelle’s men progress the ball from the back as Uche Ikpeazu was bent on making a mark against Calvin Bassey.
On the left wing, Moses Simon was having a field day toying with the Ugandan defenders with his dazzling skills.
Paul Onuachu missed a golden chance in the 25th minute as Victor Osimhen created Nigeria’s first clear-cut chance, but the Trabzonspor forward stung the palms of Denis Onyango with his attempt.
Three minutes later, the former Southampton forward atoned for his miss. A brilliant half-space pass from Bruno Onyemaechi found Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru in space.
The Lazio midfielder drove the ball into the Ugandan box before squaring the ball for Onuachu to tap home.

After getting a yellow card in the first half, Calvin Bassey was taken off and replaced by Chidozie Awaziem at the start of the second half.
Jamal Salim replaced Uganda’s goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, at half-time after the 40-year-old goalkeeper twisted his ankle in the first half.
However, the Ugandan second-choice goalkeeper spent just twelve minutes on the pitch. He was given his marching orders after he denied Victor Osimhen’s effort with his hands outside of his 18-yard box, leaving Uganda a man down.

Then, Raphael Onyedika and Samuel Chukwueze turned up the heat. The Fulham man was in form for his club side before the start of the AFCON tournament and set up Onyedika in the 63rd minute, playing a brilliant pass into the path of the Club Brugge midfielder.
Onyedika took the ball in his stride before putting the ball between Nafian Alionzi’s legs to score Nigeria’s second of the evening.

Four minutes later, Chukwueze was heavily involved again. The AC Milan loanee went past two Ugandan defenders before cutting the ball back for Onyedika, who put the ball into the bottom corner for Nigeria’s third goal.

Rogers Mato, in the 75th minute, made sure Nigeria wouldn’t get their first clean sheet at the AFCON 2025 tournament today. The youngster latched onto a brilliant pass from Allan Okello before chipping the ball over Francis Uzoho.

The Super Eagles replicate their form at the AFCON 2021 tournament, winning all three of their group games. Up next is a clash in the knockout rounds. Their opponents are yet to be confirmed.
