The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a fresh outbreak of communal violence in the region.

The curfew, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement on Monday by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor.

“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read.

Governor Fintiri directed security agencies to move swiftly into the troubled areas to restore peace and maintain public order.

The state government called on residents of Lamurde to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives working to prevent further escalation of violence.

“Security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay,” the statement added.

Naijaonpoint reports that the decision comes five months after the state government imposed a curfew on the same local government area.

The state government imposed a 24-hour curfew at the time due to what it described as “recent violent attacks and breaches of peace” within Lamurde.

Wonosikou noted that the curfew will remain in place until further notice, adding that security agencies have been placed on high alert to maintain law and order.
