First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday, December 11, expressed deep concern over the recent cases of mass abductions recorded across parts of the country, describing the incidents as worrisome.
She spoke at a Christmas engagement with children held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
Addressing the gathering, Tinubu assured Nigerians that government officials were actively working to tackle the nation’s security concerns, especially those involving vulnerable groups such as children.
Commenting on ongoing rescue operations, the First Lady said the administration had responded promptly to the incidents but stressed that managing security in a country as large and diverse as Nigeria required patience and collective national effort.
According to her, “security challenges affecting our children are receiving priority attention,” adding that progress was being made in rescue efforts.
The First Lady revealed that several children in attendance had expressed interest in joining the military, a development she described as encouraging.
She noted that their enthusiasm reflected “a growing desire among young Nigerians to contribute to national security and nation-building.”
Mrs Tinubu used the Christmas programme, an annual event that brings together children from less-privileged backgrounds, to promote cultural identity and the spirit of giving.
She urged Nigerians to strengthen communal ties by embracing traditions such as storytelling and cultural expression that reflect African heritage.
According to her, the festive season offers an opportunity to “promote acts of generosity and support those in need.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Mrs Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to intensify their efforts in helping one another, noting that generosity remains a key pillar for building resilient and supportive communities.
She said the country could only thrive if citizens continued to show compassion and solidarity, especially towards the less privileged.
