The prolonged downpour in parts of Anambra State has forced the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, out of his palace after floodwaters overran the premises.
The monarch’s residence was reportedly inundated, with several high-value vehicles within the palace compound also affected by the rising water.
The incident occurred after days of intense rainfall across the state.
The development has again drawn attention to the persistent flooding and erosion challenges confronting Ogidi and neighbouring communities.
Some residents along the badly affected stretch of the old Awka-Onitsha road have reportedly deserted their homes because of the recurring menace.
The affected road section has remained a major concern despite previous assurances of government intervention.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo had visited the area during the 2025 governorship campaign and reportedly promised to address the problem, but residents say significant work is yet to commence.
The latest incident has renewed calls for a lasting solution to the flooding and erosion crisis.
