Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone have handed a trial to highly-rated Nigerian goalkeeper Nathaniel Nwosu, Footynaija.com reports.

The 19-year-old, who stands at an imposing 6ft 7in, has already been capped at senior level for Nigeria and joined up with the Saints squad for training on Tuesday.

Nwosu is expected to continue his assessment at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday, as per the Courier.

Nwosu only recently arrived in Scotland and signed a short-term deal with Midland League outfit Tayport to maintain his fitness. Shortly after, he travelled to England for training stints with Stoke City and Nottingham Forest, where he spent a fortnight.

A product of the Water FC Academy in Abuja, Nwosu began his football journey as a defender before switching to goalkeeping at the age of 11. His breakthrough came at the 2022 WAFU Zone B U-20 tournament, where he won the Golden Glove award and earned a place in the Team of the Tournament.

Nwosu made his senior international debut for Nigeria in November 2022 during a pre-World Cup friendly against Costa Rica. He has since featured for the U20 and U23 sides, including appearances at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and the delayed 2023 African Games held in Ghana last year.

With St Johnstone currently assessing options between ...s, the trial presents a potential gateway for the young Nigerian to secure his first professional contract in European football.
