Nigerian filmmaker Don Pedro Obaseki, cousin of former Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki, has been stripped and assaulted by thugs and dragged into the palace of the Oba in Benin.
Dockaysworld gathered that the mob claimed to be acting on behalf of the Benin Traditional Council.
The filmmaker was accused of being “Oghionoba,” which loosely translates to mean “enemy of the Oba of Benin”.
In a trending video seen by Dockaysworld online, Pedro was stripped and dragged across the streets of Benin.
He was then reportedly dragged by bu the youths to the Palace over alleged actions and remarks described as disrespectful to the monarch.
Sources disclosed that the incident followed Pedro Obaseki’s recent attendance at a meet-and-greet event in London organised in honour of his cousin, Godwin Obaseki, who has also been labelled an “Oghionoba” by critics aligned with the palace.
Eye witness reports indicate that he was before individuals dressed in white attire and beads who then took him into the chambers while the thugs stayed outside.
Recall that tensions between the Oba of Benin and former governor Godwin Obaseki stem from disagreements which stretched into conflict over the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) project and the handling of repatriated Benin Bronzes.
Dockaysworld reported that the rift escalated after the Oba accused the former governor of sidelining the monarchy in the museum project, leading to protests at the MOWAA preview event and the indefinite suspension of its opening.
