Doctors only recently informed Goram that he had six months to live after determining that he had stage 4 oesophageal cancer. Following his passing, Rangers paid tribute to their former player on Twitter. Andy Goram, our famous goalkeeper, passed away today after a brief fight with cancer, the Rangers Football Club announced in a statement.

“The directors, management, players, and staff would like to ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. Our sympathies are with Andy’s family today.” Information on the funeral will be released when appropriate.

Andy represented Scotland in 43 international games and was chosen for their teams at the UEFA Euro 1992 and UEFA Euro 1996 tournaments, as well as the 1986 and 1990 World Cups. In Scottish cricket leagues, Goram played for Penicuik Cricket Club, Kelso Cricket Club, West Lothian County, and Uddingston CC. Following the end of his football career, Goram resumed his cricket career by participating in Freuchie Cricket Club’s centenary week matches against the Cricket Scotland President’s XI, Falkland Cricket Club, and Sussex Ladies.  Goram competed for a Scotland over-50s squad versus Lancashire over-50s in May 2016.
