Fortnite‘s new event puts the spotlight on The Simpsons, but some players haven’t been able to enjoy it like they were hoping. The new Simpsons-themed mini-season kicked off this morning with the “Welcome, Our Alien Overlords” event, which brings the extraterrestrial characters Kang and Kodos to the game. Like many popular Fortnite events, this has sadly resulted in some queue frustrations.
A Reddit post from user Portal-YEET-87650 bemoans the situation, asking “What’s the point of having a separate playlist” when players queuing for the event wouldn’t be let in early, meaning they might still be forced to miss some of it. Others in the comments shared similar frustrations, noting that they weren’t able to get in at all due to connection issues. Fortnite ultimately extended the event by 10 minutes to accommodate more players, as shared in an X post, but that didn’t solve the problem for everyone.
Fortnite’s Alien Overlords Event Has Issues
For those who weren’t able to get in, it might not be the end of the world. “Welcome, Our Alien Overlords” turned out to be more of a cutscene experience than an actual in-game extravaganza, and there’s plenty of time to watch the video content before the launch of the new season later today.
For all the players who had bad luck with “Welcome, Our Alien Overlords,” there are also plenty who were able to experience the event without issues, although those who did so have mixed opinions on it. Hot-Two-3152 shared a particularly scathing opinion in the comments of the Reddit post about queue issues, declaring the event an “F- at best.” For long-term Simpsons fans, however, the miniature episode might still have its charms.
The Fortnite Simpsons Season Could Still Be Great
The Simpsons issues are far from the first time Fortnite has struggled to accommodate players in an event, with August’s Super Showdown event featuring problems like major lag for many players. Fortnite‘s enormous popularity inherently makes it hard to provide reliable queues and servers during major events, but that’s all the more reason why the approach to queues might be worth revising.
Fortnite servers are now down until the start of the new season, which should start 5 hours after the morning’s event. For EDT players, that should be 4 PM, or 1 PM for PDT. The kick-off of festivities might have been underwhelming for some and inaccessible for others, but there should still be plenty of fun to look forward to in the Fortnite Simpsons mini-season.
