An international non-governmental organisation, Wamy Foundation, in collaboration with Kebbi state ministry for religious affairs, has said that within the year under review has given sight to over five thousand persons with eye defects in Kebbi state.
According to the commissioner for religious affairs, Muhammad Sani Zuru, who revealed this on Monday during an inter-ministerial briefing organised by Kebbi state ministry of information and culture, stated that patients with treatable eye defects had their vision restored through optical surgeries and reading glasses were also given to people with minor eye issues.
While highlighting the ministry’s successes under Governor Nasir Idris, he said orphans and the less privileged have been receiving humanitarian aid through the Zakat and waqaf department under the ministry.
Sani stated that the ministry and Qatar foundation have made monthly provisions of stipend payments to the blind, lepers and hawking almajiris to gradually take them off the streets with a view to rehabilitating them while they still study in the Islamic schools.
He further said that as part of efforts to strengthen public morals, the Hisbah board is, through lawful engagements, ridding the state of anti-social men who are in the habit of sexually exploiting minors in hotels and engaging in homosexuality with young boys.
