France: ‘Each year, during Ramadan, the fights are numerous’

Why would there be more fights during Ramadan than in other times?

“Ramadan is not a month of laziness but rather a month of activity, of effort, and of hard work, and as it also was in the life of the Prophet, a month of jihad, conquest, and victory.” — Palestinian Authority Supreme Sharia Judge Mahmoud Al-Habbash

“Ramadan is a month of holy war and death for Allah. It is a month for fighting the enemies of Allah and God’s messenger, the Jews and their American facilitators.” — Qaedat al-Jihad

“Ramadan is the pious month of ‘Jihad-o-Qital’ (Jihad and killing). Those who attain martyrdom while waging Jihad, doors of heaven remain open.” — Maulana Bashir Ahmad Khaki

“Montpellier: tensions and minor stab wounds in the middle of Ramadan,” translated from “Montpellier : tensions et blessés légers à l’arme blanche en plein ramadan,” by Jean-Marc Aubert, Actu, March 26, 2023 (thanks to L.):

In the middle of Ramadan, tensions are noted in the districts of Mosson and Plan Cabanes, in Montpellier. This Sunday afternoon, two stabbing victims were rescued.

What happened around 4 p.m. in a street in the city of Mosson-la Paillade? A violent brawl broke out between several individuals for an as yet unknown motive, the national police investigation barely beginning, but a knife was pulled out and two young people from the city were stabbed. Fortunately, no vital organ was affected and they were admitted to the emergency room of Lapeyronie hospital, slightly injured.

According to our information, they should leave the emergency room quickly and be heard by the investigators. In general, they observe omerta…

Is there a direct link with the strong tensions that have been reported since Thursday? Ramadan began on March 23 and lasts a month. “Many incidents have been punctuating Ramadan for four days, both at La Mosson and at Plan Cabanes, in particular on the Cours Gambetta, with fights between gangs from the neighborhoods,” a police source reported this Sunday to Metropolitan.

“We are not informed of all this violence, but the phenomenon is not new, since each year, during Ramadan, the fights are numerous, serious and less serious, and when there are no injuries, when the teams intervene, everything is deserted and calm and the few witnesses have seen nothing,” adds this source.

Last year, municipal police patrols were present, in particular at Mosson-la Paillade to quickly repress these tensions, which had made it possible to avoid tragedies. This is a matter of concern to be addressed this Monday during the large weekly meeting bringing together all the police and gendarmerie services, in the Hérault prefecture.
