Several streets in the south of Grenoble were blocked on Thursday, April 7, after a man was seen with a handgun in the street. According to the police, he shot in the air, shouted “Allahu akbar” in the neighborhood and chased two individuals located near a dealing point. The suspect was arrested.

Residents and schoolchildren on the outskirts of the Abbaye and Teisseire districts in Grenoble lived an afternoon like no other this Thursday, April 7, marked by a shooting and the arrest of two men, aged 50 and 22.

Around noon, the principal of the Grand Châtelet school called the police. A student’s mother reports that an individual allegedly used a firearm in the neighborhood. At least, that’s what this person’s sister says.

The individual, hooded, even shouted “Allahu akbar” in the neighborhood, according to the police, before firing his handgun.

Several crews are dispatched to the scene. Streets in the neighborhood are cordoned off. Students are confined to schools. But, nothing: no suspicious individual is seen in the area.

Two people prosecuted
The police then decide to do some inspection. A team from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) approaches two young people at a dealing point. They claim to have been approached by a hooded man, brown jacket on his back, beret pressed down on his head and a tear gas canister in his hand, which he would have used against them.

The individual then pulled out his “revolver-type” weapon, according to the police, before shooting in the air. The two dealers then fled, followed closely by this stranger.

After a few moments, he left on foot. But the two witnesses, in turn, followed him closely and saw him enter a building on rue Marius Blanchet, in Grenoble.

Confused words
It is in this place that the teams of the BAC and the intervention company decide to intervene. At the same time, the suspect calls the police. He explains that he received an SMS referring to a shooting and that he had nothing to do with it. His words are confused and his profile matches the description of the shooter.

Contacted, his son explains that his father is indeed the holder of a firearm, but that it was not loaded. So many elements which push the police to arrest the father, aged 50, and his 22-year-old son, at their home.

At the end of this intervention, the schoolchildren were able to resume classes, the streets of the neighborhood were reopened. Bullet holes were found at 6 rue Charles Rivail. “It could be steel ball impacts,” police said.
