As reported by People, the Frasier revival show has a new update. A recent tweet from Frasier staffer Jeff Greenberg on Monday confirmed that production for the revival is officially in progress. On Twitter, Greenberg shared a photo of the pilot’s episode’s script along with the caption, “And so it begins. Again.” The script for the upcoming revival’s pilot lists Joe Christalli and Chris Harris as writers and television director James Burrow (who assisted with the original series) as the episode’s director. The pilot is titled “The Good Father,” which is a nod to the show’s original Frasier pilot, which is called “The Good Son.”
The tweet has since been deleted.
Back in October, Deadline reported that Paramout+ had ordered one season of the revival series. Kelsey Grammer, the man behind the series’ titular character, will return to his role as the radio psychiatrist in addition to serving as an executive producer on the revival. At the time of the announcement, Grammer complimented the script for the upcoming series and told Deadline that the writers were “in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot and it looks pretty good.” The actor continued, “I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried. So you know, I’m happy.”
Grammer also spoke with People and revealed that the Frasier revival’s rehearsals are set to start in February after about “six or seven years” of behind-the-scenes work on the upcoming show. In the revival, Grammer’s Frasier Crane will leave the series’ prior Seattle setting behind and pursue his work in a new city. While reflecting on the character’s change of scenery, Grammer said, “[Frasier is] our brave little soldier that continues on in life, finding new challenges and a new love and new people and a new city and stuff like that.”
Though the Frasier revival will be bringing back Grammer, not everyone from the original cast will be a part of the new series. David Hyde Pierce (who played Niles Crane in the television series) will not return for the revival, nor will the late John Mahoney (who played Martin Crane), who passed away back in February of 2018.
Grammer told People, “I’m really very excited about it, and we’ll certainly always honor the past. We have to honor the fact that John Mahoney died and that Martin is no longer with us. We’ll be dealing with that for sure.”
There’s still no official date set for the Frasier revival; however, the original series is currently available to watch on Hulu.
