The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dispelled rumours that he is aligning with individuals working against the interest of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Thursday at the New Year banquet organised by the Rivers State Government at Government House, Port Harcourt, Fubara announced that prominent former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and known supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have resolved to support Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.

The political figures include former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Opara; former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia; and former Minister of Transport Abiye Sekibo.

The governor reaffirmed that he remains unshaken in the face of political challenges, declaring that his trust in God gives him confidence and strength.

According to him, “So let’s just pick one of two things there. First we give God all the glory that according to the comedian I’m the only governor that has the record while serving, after serving I went, became a former and later became …. You know we have made history.

“There is no way people will be talking about us when we leave office, in fact books will be written about our administration, what we went through and how we survived. But the truth is very straight and the secret to our survival is just one thing: Those who put their trust in God can never be out to shame.

“That is the truth. And because they can’t put us to shame, the purpose of governance for this dear state will be achieved.

“I feel very happy this evening because seated on the high table here are very distinguished names of our dear state. What has just happened is to tell the world that these very distinguished persons here, let me take Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon, Austin Opara, His Excellency Celestine Omehia, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, the four of you that are here, you have come to join us at this year’s banquet to tell the world that you stand with the administration of Siminalayi Fubara.”

Fubara continued, “You’re sitting with us boldly so that people will know that you are not into corner-corner business. You are standing with Fubara. And because you are standing with Fubara, your support is for Mr President.

“So I want to thank you this evening because you don’t know what you have done. We are being blackmailed in several places not just because of your political activities, but because of your need.

“But am happy this evening that you told me you’re going to come so that the world will know that you’re with us and that you have no affiliation whatever with any other group that is against Mr President.”
