Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), receiving his membership card from the party’s state chairman, Tony Okocha, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who was in the state for the commissioning of the Airport Road and flag-off of the bypass to IPO from Airport.

During the event, Governor Fubara declared, “I am the number one. I have collected my card and on the form is 001. I’m not just a member of APC, I’m the leader of APC in Rivers State”.

Fubara’s defection to APC comes after months of speculation, citing the party’s support and protection as the reason for his move. He had previously announced his intention to join the APC, stating it was in the interest of Rivers State and a gesture of appreciation to President Bola Tinubu. ¹ ² ³

Although Fubara’s defection has been met with mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a strategic move to strengthen the APC in Rivers State, while others view it as a self-inflicted injury.
