The Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has suspended Hon. Barrister Otonye Briggs as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, effective immediately.
As his replacement, Bitebobo Nelson Amieye has been appointed to take over as Chairman, with Briggs directed to hand over all council property to Amieye.
The development comes as a surprise as the Governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi in a signed statement announced the suspension.
While the reasons behind the suspension are unclear, the move gave a hint that all is not rosy in the Governor’s camp and the leadership for Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
