The Senate on Tuesday announced a major reshuffle of its standing committees, signaling fresh adjustments in the power structure of the 10th National Assembly and a focused response to escalating security challenges.

The reconstitution, announced by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, affects some of the legislature’s most strategic committees, including National Security and Intelligence, National Planning, Air Force, and Livestock and Animal Husbandry.

This action follows the dissolution of the National Security and Intelligence and Air Force Committees on November 26, after the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, criticized them for failing to perform adequate oversight amid rising insecurity.

The reshuffle is one of the most extensive committee adjustments since the inauguration of the 10th Senate and is designed to strengthen legislative oversight as the National Assembly enters a critical phase of budget defense and policy scrutiny.

The Committee on National Security and Intelligence will be chaired by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi State) who previously headed the Committee on National Planning.

For National Planning, Senator Mustafa Musa (Yobe State) heads the Committee, replacing Senator Abdullahi.

Air Force is chaired by Senator Osita Ngwu (Enugu State – Minority Whip) who previously served as Deputy Chairman.
