A political associate of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, has raised the alarm over what he described as a coordinated plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to bar the former Kano State governor from visiting his home state.
In an interview with DCL Hausa, Galadima alleged that a document is currently before the Presidential Villa seeking to prevent Kwankwaso from returning to Kano.
Galadima stated, “There is a paper before the Presidential Villa, and from what we are hearing, it is meant to prevent Kwankwaso from coming to Kano.
“They are trying to stop him from coming to his own state for political reasons.”
Galadima claimed the development bears similarities to past attempts aimed at frustrating the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, noting that Kwankwaso’s political enemies have intensified efforts to limit his movements.
“We are waiting to see how the Presidency will respond, but this looks like another attempt to frustrate him like before,” he added.
The comment comes amid heightened political tensions in Kano, where the APC and the NNPP continue to jostle for dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to reports that United States lawmakers are proposing sanctions against Kwankwaso under the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act 2026, Galadima said the move did not come as a surprise.
“To us, this is not surprising. Although this was not exactly what we expected, there have been many rumours,” he said.
The proposed US bill reportedly recommends visa bans and asset freezes on Kwankwaso, as well as some Fulani groups, over alleged religious persecution. The NNPP has since dismissed the accusations as politically motivated.
Galadima further alleged that there had been sustained efforts to pressure Kwankwaso into defecting to the APC, efforts he said the former governor rejected firmly.
He said, “From the time Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was told he must join the APC, many people, including his friends and associates, warned him that if he refused, unpleasant things would be arranged against him.”
He maintained that despite threats and inducements, Kwankwaso has refused to shift political ground.
“Kwankwaso is not scared. He has made it clear that he will not move to another party unless the conditions he set for the good of the people are fulfilled,” Galadima added.
