The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed insinuation that the recent resignation of the party’s former Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, will trigger a crisis within the party.
Naijaonpoint recalls there were speculations online that Ganduje quit his position over a purported move by former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the APC.
However, Basiru, while speaking at a media parley organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zone B, comprising journalists from the South-West states, led by the union’s Vice President, Ronke Samo, countered speculations surrounding the resignation of the party’s chieftain.
Basiru said Ganduje was commended for repositioning the party in his capacity as National Chairman, stressing that under his watch, more states had joined the party and that the APC had been administratively strengthened since their joint election on August 3, 2023.
He said, “If you look at the statement issued by the party, he was commended for the efforts he made in repositioning the party. Under his watch, we have more states coming into the party and administratively, the party was strengthened since our joint election as the National Chairman and the National Secretary on 3rd August, 2023.
“And this is not the first time that the party’s official has resigned. It is upon the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman and Senator Iyiola Omisore that we assumed office on 3rd August 2023. So the resignation of Dr Abdullahi Umar Gandunje does not portend any crisis. It is speculation.”
