It took Google years to make Google Assistant as useful as it was at its peak, and Gemini is looking to take its place. However, it hasn’t been a graceful transition. Gemini still can’t perform several of the tasks that Google Assistant can, and this is something that really upset people, but it’s slowly changing. Gemini has just gotten the Google Home Extension.
Google’s chatbot has been gaining countless capabilities over the past several months, and some of them made the chatbot a better assistant. Through the use of extensions, Google has been able to grant Gemini arms to reach out and access different services like YouTube.
Gemini now has the Google Home extension
One of the things that Google Assistant can do that Gemini can’t do is control your home. You’re able to ask Google to switch off lights, start your coffee maker, and do other things just by using your voice. This is one of the things that people have been waiting to come to Gemini.
Well, Google just released an update for the Google Home app. This update brings some UI changes like the new media player UI. It’s much more sleek and out of the way. Also, it shows the artwork of the album you’re listening to.
Among the updates that Google added, the company gave the Google Home app the ability to communicate with Gemini. Android users who are a part of the Gemini app public beta can try out this extension. Using the extension, users can control their smart home devices. All users have to do is summon Gemini and tell it what they want it to do.
Gemini will then contact the Google Home app and perform the task. Since Google is in the process of replacing Google Assistant with Gemini, it’s about time. Gemini is still working on becoming a true AI assistant, and the Google Home integration is just the next step.
