The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly responded to President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action in Nigeria.

Trump, who recently designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, had also directed the US Department of Defence to prepare for possible operations in the country over the alleged persecution of Christians.

Security expert Zagazola Makama, in a post on his official X account, said ISWAP issued a “propaganda message circulated through its usual communication channels” in reaction to the US threat.

In the message, the group described Trump as a “reckless American tyrant,” claiming the US President was influenced by “evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers.”

ISWAP also alleged that the move was part of an attempt by the United States to portray itself as the “global defender of Christians.”

Makama added that the extremists advised their fighters to avoid using smartphones, steer clear of large gatherings, and limit movement.

The group further called on Muslims across West Africa to “unite” and take the alleged US threat seriously, while accusing Western nations of committing “crimes against African Muslims.”
