ACCRA, Ghana – Popular Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has been released on bail after being detained for questioning by Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with the purchase of his luxury vehicle, a yellow 2019 Lamborghini Urus.
The musician was granted bail after paying a substantial sum of $454,000. His arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into the vehicle’s origins, which has international connections.
The probe was triggered after the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified the Lamborghini as an asset linked to the criminal activities of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving a seven-year prison term in the United States.
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., has publicly denied any knowledge of or connection to Nana Kwabena Amuah.
The arrest coincides with a major crackdown on cybercrime. Earlier this month, the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department extradited and arrested three other Ghanaian nationals alleged to be the masterminds behind a massive $100 million fraud scheme. The scheme reportedly involved sophisticated romance scams and phishing attacks targeting victims in the United States.
The investigation, a collaboration between Ghanaian and U.S. authorities, is ongoing.
