The social empowerment arm of telecommunications giant, Globacom, Glo Foundation, last Friday played host to hundreds of girls from various secondary schools across the country in commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
The Foundation organized a symbolic walk and movie timeout for the enthusiastic girls who came out in their good numbers.
100 girls chosen from five secondary schools in Lagos were received at the corporate head office of Globacom, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, where they had a brief session with senior female executives of the company.
They were selected from Queens College, Sabo Yaba; Herbert Macaulay Girls Senior High School, Yaba; Kuramo Senior College, Victoria Island; Victoria Island Secondary School; and Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Oregun, Ikeja.
Dueing the session, the girls were encouraged to desire and pursue excellence in their future fields of endeavour and to strive to succeed in any professions or businesses of their liking.
The girls were received by Globacom’s Director, Strategy and Board Affairs, Mrs Mojisola Ashieru Sweet, who charged the students to be proud of who they are and be confident of the success that will come from their efforts.
The company’s Head of Human Resources, Mrs Jumoke Aduwo, further emphasized the need for the girls to exhibit hardwork and diligence as they develop strong character which will help them to navigate the harsh terrains of life.
The students later took a symbolic walk from Globacom’s Mike Adenuga Towers to the Customer Care and Information Systems departments, at Ahmadu Bello Way, where they learnt some of the basics about the operations of the telecommunications infrastructure.
They subsequently moved to Silverbird Cinema, where they watched a Nollywood movie, “The Serpent’s Gift”, featuring Linda Ejiofor and radio presenter and actor, Chico Aligwejwe.
The Federal Capital Territory was also involved in the exercise where students from Al-Noor Academy, Wuse, and Redeemers Private School were hosted at the Glo office and at Silverbird Cinema, Jabi Lake Mall.
In Kaduna, Owerri, Port Harcourt and Benin City, the story was not different as girls from selected schools were received in Glo offices and later taken to the movies where they all watched the movie, “The Serpent’s Gift”.
After the movie, the girls took time to discuss the key lessons from the movie in order to foster public speaking skills and confidence in them.
