The Huawei Mate X6 was originally announced towards the end of last month. Now, around two weeks later, Huawei has introduced the global variant of the Mate X6. The device was announced during the company’s event in Dubai.
The Huawei Mate X6 has arrived to global markets with a couple of changes
There are a couple of notable differences compared to the Chinese model before we get into the rest of the details. Instead of having two RAM options, and three storage options, only one variant was announced globally. The global Huawei Mate X6 includes 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
In addition to that, different software is included. This time around, it’s actually much different. The Mate X6 in China was announced with the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, Huawei’s brand-new OS which is completely Android-free.
HarmonyOS is included instead of HarmonyOS NEXT… for a good reason
Globally, things are notably different. The Huawei Mate X6 comes with HarmonyOS, an Android-based operating system that we’ve been seeing on the company’s smartphones for years now.
Do note that you still don’t have access to Google services, of course, Huawei’s HMS services are installed instead, along with the company’s AppGallery app store.
It is notably thinner and lighter than its predecessor
With that being said, the Huawei Mate X6 is a brand-new flagship foldable phone, which is notably thinner and lighter than its predecessor. The phone measures only 9.9mm when folded, and 4.6mm unfolded. It weighs 239 grams.
The Huawei Mate X6 has a 7.93-inch main display, that’s an LTPO OLED panel that folds. It offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and its peak brightness is 1,800 nits. The second panel on the phone is a 6.45-inch panel, and it’s also an LTPO OLED panel. It also offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and the peak brightness here is 2,500 nits.
The Kirin 9010 SoC fuels the phone, while we already talked about RAM and storage earlier. There is no storage expansion on offer here, in case you were wondering.
66W wired & 50W wireless charging is on offer
A 5,200mAh battery sits on the inside, while the phone supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. 7.5W reverse wireless and 5W reverse wired charging is also on offer here, and a charger does come with the phone.
The Mate X6 has three cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture, OIS, PDAF) is backed by a 40-megapixel ultrawide snapper (120-degree FoV, f/2.2 aperture). A 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (f/3.0 aperture, 4x optical zoom, OIS, PDAF) is also a part of the package.
An 8-megapixel snapper is included on both the main and cover displays. The one on the main display has an f/2.2 aperture, while the one on the cover display has an f/2.4 aperture lens.
The device is water and dust resistant
A side-facing fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package, as is Bluetooth 5.2. The phone also supports a stylus, and that goes for both of its displays. IPX8 certification for water and dust resistance is also included in the package. Its price tag is still a mystery, but it should be announced shortly.
