The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State, to sustain their operational momentum and deny criminal elements the freedom to operate within their areas of responsibility.

Mahmuda gave the charge during his maiden operational visit to the Owena Cantonment in Akure, where he commended the troops for their efforts in tackling security threats in the area.

The GOC said he had been monitoring security developments within the brigade’s area of responsibility and was aware of the measures being taken by the troops to address the challenges.

According to him, reports reaching his office indicated that the soldiers had performed creditably, but he urged them not to relent in their efforts to confront emerging security threats.

“I have been following the security challenges within your area of responsibility and I am aware of the efforts being made by troops to respond appropriately. From the reports available to me, you are doing very well. I urge you to sustain your aggressive operational posture and continue to deny criminal elements freedom of action,” Mahmuda said.

He also assured the troops that their welfare remained a priority for the Nigerian Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, in line with the ‘Soldiers First’ concept.

Mahmuda noted that the recent improvement in the welfare of personnel, including salary adjustments, reflected the commitment of the military authorities and the Federal Government to appreciating the sacrifices of troops.

He, however, said greater responsibility rested on the soldiers, urging them to reciprocate the support by remaining disciplined and professional while redoubling their efforts to protect the country.

The GOC added, “To whom much is given, much is expected. You must continue to uphold the values of the Nigerian Army as proud professionals and step up your efforts to make the Army and the nation proud.”

Earlier, the Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Brig. Gen. Jibrin Garba, welcomed Mahmuda and his entourage and briefed him on the operational activities, deployment and other matters concerning the brigade.
