Lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has vowed not to support presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Friday, Adeyanju said he would vote for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if Peter Obi were to emerge as the presidential candidate of the opposition coalition for the 2027 elections.
The lawyer, who spoke on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, however, denied claims that he was trying to discredit Obi.
“God forbid that I support APC. If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote for Tinubu,” he said.
Adeyanju insisted that he doesn’t follow the crowd in voting, as he has always stood behind credible candidates.
“In my opinion, I have never voted for a bad candidate. In 1999, I voted for Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2011, I voted for Goodluck Jonathan. In 2015, I voted for Jonathan again, against the so-called lovers of democracy who wanted Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
Naijaonpoint recalls that Adeyanju recently questioned Obi’s political credentials, leading to a public feud between the duo.
Adeyanju, in a social media post, alleged that Obi diverted funds from the Anambra State treasury into his family business.
In the same post, Adeyanju also claimed to have met Obi, alleging that the former governor attempted to give him money disguised as a token of appreciation.
Also, the lawyer in another post had declared that it is too late for Obi to become the President of Nigeria.
However, Obi’s legal team described the statements as “false, malicious and defamatory,” demanding a public retraction and an unreserved apology from Adeyanju.
Reacting to the threat of legal action, Adeyanju took to his official 𝕏 handle on Wednesday night where he dismissed Obi’s notice and dared him to proceed with the lawsuit.
